Aidonia village is a tiny, picturesque, historic village, keeping its genuine architectural beauty untouched through times. Living there, you get the feeling that time has stopped centuries ago. Every corner, a new discovery. Every detail, a touch of magic. If you like photography, you will shoot miracles!
The jewel of the village is the natural water spring, with fresh natural water all the way from the mountain. At a two minute walk from our house, you can get fresh water by yourselves and relax at the sound the running flow and the caress of the breeze.
The strong point of the area: 140 km of marked trekking routes to select, around the region. One of these routes, ROUTE No 4, is actually passing through Aidonia village.
Natural beauty at its best. Fauna and flora create the terroir of Andros and especially Korthion region where our village belongs. Thyme, Caper, Fennel, Olive trees, lemon trees, fig trees flourish among stones, sky and water springs. This natural terroir becomes important for avifauna, holding important breeding populations of two protected seabird species: the Mediterranean Shag and the Augouin's Gull, as well as the enigmatic Eleonora’s falcon.
The region of Korthion bay (Ormos Korthion) is famous for its hidden gem of remote trekking, virgin beaches. We will give you all details to reach them. Some of them are reachable by walking, others call for a strong car. For an easy-going choice, the long sandy beach of Ormos is found at a distance of just 1,5 km from our house .
The food is just fantastic. Small tavernas with traditional homemade food, along the seaside of Korthion Bay, just at 1,5 km from our house. Delicious variety, fresh fish, excellent fresh ingredients and sea view, while you enjoy your dinner. Taste local cheese “volaki”, local almond pastries, seasonal delicacies, ice cream made with local fresh milk. We will be your guide to discover them all !
Local people celebrate life. They are a close community, living together during cold winters and hot summers. From June to September, all orthodox occasions are connected to celebrations with a church-mess, food, wine and local instrumental music. We will let you know the calendar, so that you participate, if you wish. The top event is happening on the first Saturday of August, every year, taking place in Aidonia village itself. A big open-air festivity with food, live folk music , dancing till the next dawn, non-stop. People from all over the island, arrive to Aidonia to be a part of this unique celebration.
Andros island has many important museums and art Galleries . Archaeological, Nautical, the famous Museum of Contemporary Art of Goulandris Foundation, Kydonieos Art Foundation, …. Spectacular historic stone built Monasteries of Byzantine era, are undoubtfully a pole of attraction.
